Position description

The Office of Program Management Operations in EPA's Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) has a position available for a talented and experienced self-starter in its Information Technology team to support high visibility IT projects essential to indoor and outdoor air quality and radiation operations. The incumbent will serve as a project management specialist in support of the OAR full inventory of IT systems and applications. This position provides a unique opportunity to provide IT, property, and administrative support to the Immediate Office of the Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation thus impacting programs across OAR. The applicant must be a self-starter with strong analytical, and communication skills as well as a team player who thrives in a dynamic, deadline driven work environment to meet our deliverables in a timely manner. Duties

  • Develop an understanding of OAR’s IT equipment, software, systems, interfaces, and networks. 
  • Provide customer support for OAR’s diverse IT system hardware and software systems. • Develop understanding IT government requirements for property, privacy, information collection, and security. 
  • Gain knowledge and technical support to balance customer requirements, available resources and regional goals and objectives. 
  • Collaborate with team members to provide central operational support for shared computing equipment attached to the network. 
  • Assist with operational support for users of IT equipment, software. 
  • Participate in accomplishing IT system functions required for the development of local policies, plans, and processes. 
  • Complete routine function tests of the hardware/software to resolve technical problems and ensure appropriate on-site repairs. 
  • Provide ongoing support, resolution of problems, and recovery of operating malfunctions involving various hardware components and software failures. 
  • Learn how test and develop functioning applications using EPA shared low code platforms.
  • Track purchases, returns, and surplus IT equipment. 
  • Communicate and synthesis information about IT systems and applications.

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing to assist in developing analyses including at-a-glance documents, excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides to convey information for briefings and meetings. 
  • Skill in oral communication to explain policy or procedural requirement or share information across headquarters and regional offices. 
  • Ability to work on projects independently as well as a part of a team. 
  • Strong analytical, IT, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Interest in learning about how to support a federal IT application or system. 
  • Knowledge of basic IT concepts, principles, methods, and practices to participate in the planning and delivery of a full range of customer support services to the organization. 
  • Knowledge of customer support principles and methods to install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot any hardware and software component. 
  • Ability to use a wide range of assessment tools to assess and maintain IT system performance. 
  • Skill in oral and written communications to prepare presentations, systems documentation, and reports. 
  • Ability to research, plan and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment, such as servers, to ensure seamless implementation and success of consolidation efforts. 
  • Ability to manage, track, and effectively report risks, project requirements, and milestones.
