Organization Summary and Context  

International Funders for Indigenous Peoples (IFIP) is a global member-based 501(c)3 network representing foundations, Indigenous Led Funds, and non-profits. IFIP is the only philanthropy network dedicated to shifting power, mobilizing resources, and building partnerships to amplify Indigenous leadership and to support the self-determination and rights of Indigenous Peoples. IFIP influences funders to practice a new paradigm of giving based on Indigenous values “The Five R’s of Indigenous Philanthropy” —Respect, Reciprocity, Responsibility, Relationships and Redistribution. Building on over 25 years of experience, IFIP is at an exciting moment of evolution and on a path to accelerate organizational capacity to roll out our strategic plan and increase advocacy for funding to Indigenous Peoples globally.   

Position Overview  

The Communications Associate will report to the Communications Manager and will contribute to implementing IFIP’s communication strategy by supporting the organization’s social media channels, updating the organization’s website, and supporting communication activities and goals. This role is critical in ensuring that IFIP’s brand and messaging are consistently represented across all channels, helping to amplify the organization’s mission and values. With a new website, brand refresh, and new communications strategy, this role will play a key part in expanding IFIP’s communications, engagement, and narrative change to amplify Indigenous Philanthropy. 

The ideal candidate is proactive, creative, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable about our mission.  IFIPs global community (team, board members, members, and partners) is based across the world. This position may be remote, or hybrid if candidate is based in Sacramento. Candidates must be based in the Americas. 

Core Responsibilities: 

Digital Media and Content: 

  • Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading content for IFIP’s digital platforms, including social media posts, website updates, newsletters, and email campaigns. 
  • Maintain and update content calendars, and assist in scheduling and publishing content across platforms in coordination with the Communications Manager to ensure timely and strategic content delivery that is aligned with IFIP’s communication goals. 
  • Monitor IFIP’s social media channels, engage with audiences, and respond to inquiries under the guidance of the Communications Manager. 
  • Support the Communications Manager in updating the website with fresh content, event information, and member news. 
  • Assist in troubleshooting website issues and ensuring content is current and accurate. 
  • Maintain organized digital files for communications, including photos, videos, and other media assets. 

Marketing & Analytics: 

  • Support the creation and development of communication materials for IFIP events, publications, and other organizational activities, including but not limited drafting outreach emails and event materials. 
  • Provide logistical support for communications-related activities, such as press releases, media outreach, and managing contact lists. 
  • Support the development and dissemination of newsletters and other regular communications to members and stakeholders.  
  • Conduct research on media trends, and monitor press mentions, to compile reports to inform communications strategy development. 
  • Track and report on social media analytics, providing insights to improve engagement and outreach strategies. 

Organizational Culture and Team Collaboration  

  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork and collaboration by playing a role in supporting each other to accomplish tasks at hand, the annual work plan, and overall mission. 
  • Bring a learning, attention to detail, and initiative taking disposition and participate in organization-wide learning, cross-program partnership, and operations efficiency to grow as an organization. 
  • Able to adapt and excel in a multi-cultural and fast paced environment where team members take part and contribute to planning activities, including staff meetings, retreats, trainings, and strategy sessions. 
  • Provide support when needed on organization-wide activities, such as webinars, annual events, Global Conferences etc. 
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures and responsible for own administrative tasks such as submission of receipts, reimbursement requests, scheduling, travel planning, etc. 
  • Embody and uphold the 5 R’s (Respect, Relationships, Responsibility, Reciprocity, Redistribution) in working with external stakeholders and internal team members 

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities 

  • Experience with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus. 
  • Strong English writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools. 
  • Basic understanding of content management systems (CMS) and website maintenance. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small global remote team.  
  • The role will require occasional international travel and flexibility in working hours for meetings and events across time zones. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in English. Spanish proficiency with formal/professional Spanish writing, editing, and proofreading skills strongly preferred. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field. 
  • 2-4 years of experience in a communications role, preferably in a nonprofit or Indigenous Peoples’ organization working globally.  
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples organizational landscape, philanthropy, and civil society organizations strongly preferred.  
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment

Location: IFIP’s headquarters is located in Sacramento, CA however work can be performed remotely. Candidates must be based in the Americas.

Compensation: $64,000-$70,000 depending on experience. IFIP offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including employer paid health, dental, and vision benefits.  Non-US based compensation, salary and benefits, will be based on the country of residence.
