Position description

The USAID Science for Development Fellowships (SDF) program, administered and managed by USmax Corporation, is a two-year immersive, professional development program for STEMM doctoral-level scientists or those with a master's in engineering degree. It is designed for USAID to gain scientific and technical expertise from U.S. citizen scientists and engineers to help influence change and impact global societies to become self-sufficient.

Duties

Become a catalyst for change as a Science for Development Fellow (SDF), impacting USAID’s mission to enhance the United States’ foreign aid and humanitarian assistance efforts and work directly with colleagues to address challenges that help foster self-sufficiency globally. Use your doctorate in STEMM, including social sciences, or your master’s degree in engineering, to help find innovative and creative solutions to development challenges USAID faces worldwide.

Your expertise will contribute to saving lives, reducing poverty, strengthening democratic governance, and helping people progress beyond assistance. Your Peace Corps skills and appropriate STEMM degree, combined with a desire to gain experience outside of academia, or a lab, make this two-year immersive, professional development opportunity a great way to continue making a difference in the world.

You will have the opportunity to work in any one of USAID's many bureaus and offices on projects focused on these areas: Agriculture and Food Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance, Environment, Energy, and Infrastructure, Humanitarian Assistance, Water and Sanitation, Anti-Corruption, Economic Growth and Trade, Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, Innovation, Technology, and Research, Conflict Prevention and Stabilization, Education, Global Health, and Nutrition.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must be: (1) A U.S. citizen (2) Living in Washington, DC, (3) In receipt of a qualifying degree by January 1, 2025 or up to 10 years beyond receipt of it, and (4) Committed to a two-year immersive professional development experience.
