Position description

Carnegie Mellon University is a private, global research university that stands among the world’s most renowned education institutions. With ground-breaking brain science, path-breaking performances, creative start-ups, big data, big ambitions, hands-on learning, and a whole lot of robots, CMU doesn’t imagine the future, we invent it. If you’re passionate about joining a community that challenges the curious to deliver work that matters, your journey starts here!

The Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology (CMIST) is the university’s home for the teaching of Political Science and International Relations. CMIST focuses on interdisciplinary research and education at the intersection of business strategy and technological innovation, aiming to address complex global challenges and drive strategic advancements in technology-driven industries.

CMIST is seeking a Project Administrator to join the team to drive the success of moderately complex projects by leading Project Management activities. This includes managing Project Work Statements, Work Plans, and other essential customer contract documents. You'll prepare insightful reports, drawing from diverse internal and external sources, and identify any variances. In addition, you’ll collaborate with various departments and external stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and coordinated effort.

This is a fixed-term position with a duration of approximately 5 months.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provides project planning and implementation support in both Pittsburgh and Washington, DC, for CMIST SPS engagement and outreach initiatives.
  • Supports all aspects of planning and execution of SPS activities (i.e., guest speakers, lectures, workshops, executive courses, invited guests, and/or other activities as needed) including pre-event logistics, day-of set up, problem resolution, and project close out.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the CMIST Communications and Marketing team to ensure proper event branding and marketing efforts are conducted ahead of events.
  • Cultivates, and maintains relationships with CMU and external partners as it relates to SPS projects.
  • Manages budgeted expenses for events and courses, including initiating contracts for speakers, preparing expense reports, and creating purchase orders.
  • Additionally works with the CMIST SPS team to ensure proper documentation of processes, best practices, and standard operating procedures.
  • Supports other cross-CMIST sponsored activities and processes as directed.

Inclusion and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Therefore, we are in search of a team member who can effectively interact with a varied population of diverse audiences. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business/business administration or another related field.
  • 1-3 years of project management experience.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful background check

Additional Information:
