Global Health Council (GHC) is the leading member organization devoted to advancing global health priorities by uniting advocates, implementers, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Using the power of our community’s collective voice, we work across disease areas to drive sustainable funding and equitable policies that improve global health and well-being for all.
Our membership numbers more than 140 members—including associations and coalitions, corporations, foundations, NGOs, academic institutions, and think tanks — that, collectively, work across 150 countries and focus on a broad range of global health issues.
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented person to serve as our full-time (40 hours per week) Manager, Legislative Affairs. This role is based in Washington, D.C. and offers a remote work-from-home environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent people skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in the fast-paced environment of a small and incredibly productive, highly-respected non-profit organization. The person in this role will support the organization’s efforts to influence global health policies, raise awareness, and drive engagement on key issues. The role involves supporting the execution of advocacy strategies, particularly with the U.S. Congress and Administration, creating compelling communications content, and coordinating with stakeholders, including policymakers and partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Advocacy Support:
- Assist in the implementation of global health advocacy strategies with the U.S. Congress and government agencies, including by organizing meetings, briefings, and lobby days to advance advocacy objectives.
- Support GHC’s advocacy campaigns, including by preparing advocacy materials such as briefing notes, congressional testimony, appropriations requests, and other related materials.
- Monitor and analyze U.S. global health policy, initiatives, and legislative developments, including appropriations.
- Work with the Director of U.S. Advocacy & Engagement to build and maintain strong relationships with legislators and policymakers.
- Organize and maintain files, records, and documents related to advocacy efforts as needed.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement:
- Manage logistics for monthly working group meetings, including coordinating agendas and meeting notes, and assist in the organization of stakeholder meetings, webinars, and other engagement activities.
- Represent the GHC in coalition meetings, briefings, and hearings related to global health issues.
- Maintain and update advocacy contact lists of GHC members, and other key stakeholders and partners.
- Work with the Director of U.S. Advocacy & Engagement to build and maintain strong relationships with advocacy groups and other stakeholders.
- Provide administrative support to the Advocacy team as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in legislative affairs, public policy, or advocacy, preferably with a focus on global health is required. Experience working on Capitol Hill and/or in a relevant U.S. government agency is strongly desired.
- Experience working with coalitions and/or membership organizations is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Creative, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience working in a remote office environment is a plus.
- Language proficiency in French and/or Spanish is a plus.
Salary Range: $60,000-70,000
On top of the competitive salary that we are offering, 16 paid holidays and 25 paid days off. We provide an excellent benefits plan including parental leave, medical, dental, short-term, and long-term disability, and a robust 401K program.
- The (16) holidays include: All (11) federal holidays, + plus the day after Thanksgiving + plus (4) flexible holidays to meet the religious and cultural needs of our diverse staff.
