Duties

This intern role will support the Senior Program Officer in managing Amideast’s participation in the U.S. Department of State-sponsored programs such as YES Abroad and the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y). The intern will also support the Education Abroad team in the development and implementation of Amideast Education Abroad’s intercultural learning initiatives, in supporting the needs of traditionally underserved participants specifically and student life generally across all Education Abroad programs, and in marketing Amideast Education Abroad digitally and at U.S. institutions. RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist in the implementation and support of YES Abroad and NSLI-Y programming • Provide administrative support for student applications and document management • Assist with social media and other digital marketing for all Amideast Education Abroad programs • Assist with general office tasks as needed • Chaperone and supervise high school participants during orientations in D.C. • Assist with planning and coordinating Amideast events as assigned • Provide general staff support for all student programs WORK ENVIRONMENT The incumbent in this position will work in a professional office environment and will utilize the following equipment when working from the corporate office or remote home office (on a hybrid basis). • Computer (laptop or desktop) • Printer/Photocopier/Scanner/Fax • Telephone Up to 10% local business travel may be needed to support the Education Abroad team as needed.

 

Qualifications

Required • Excellent oral and written communication skills, preferably including social media marketing experience • Excellent attention to detail • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders • Flexibility and adaptability in organizing workload • Demonstrated interest in the Middle East and North Africa, Islamic studies, international education, social sciences, and/or public diplomacy • Strong sense of intersection of justice, equity, diversity, and belonging in and between US and Global South contexts • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office365 applications; familiarity with the broad range of social media platforms beyond that of a standard user • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as with other staff members • Ability to travel locally in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area and perhaps more broadly in the U.S. up to several times a year as needed • Ability to work up to 30 hours during program orientation weeks • Ability to commit to a minimum of 6 months through June 2025 Preferred • Strong research skills • Some knowledge of Arabic and/or French or any other regional language • Experience studying abroad in the Global South • Experience editing various types of digital content • Video or audio editing experience • Event planning experience
