Overview of the position:
Hours: part-time or full-time (at least 80%)
Starting date: as soon as possible
Duration: two-year contract
Location: Berlin, Germany
Department: Executive Office, reporting to Head of Strategic Partnerships
Staff supervision and coordination
- Personnel management of Unit staff, including staff development and support, annual appraisals, and conflict management mechanisms, if needed. As well as staff resource and budget management.
- Strategic and effective coordination and coherence of MEL activities and support offered to the organisation by MEL advisors,
- Close collaboration with relevant entities in-house, including HR, Finance, and Executive Management and external as well as internal representation of MEL team, where necessary.
Strategic development
- Develop and execute MEL strategy & evaluation framework for MEL activities collaboratively with MEL Advisors and other relevant BF staff, oversee implementation and reporting
- Coordinate and provide thought leadership on the development of MEL expertise, knowledge products and professional networks
MEL support
- Provide support to project teams in addressing various MEL requirements.
- Design plans for monitoring and evaluation of existing and new projects. Identify key indicators and data collection methods that align with project and organizational objectives and ensure the collection of reliable data throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee the implementation of an innovative pilot project, combining rigorous impact evaluation methods with participatory approaches
- Further develop the organization’s MEL approach and support internal trainings and capacity building initiatives focused to mainstream MEL approaches within the organization
- Document project outcomes and insights, contribute to collecting and disseminating lessons learned based on interviews with key stakeholders, partners and team
- Drive forward innovation on MEL approaches within the team, ensure continuous improvement of existing systems, to strengthen accountability and learning capacities within Berghof and across the sector
- Contribute to the production of learning materials and manuals
Your knowledge, experience & skills
- Minimum of 8 years experience in monitoring and evaluation, knowledge of evaluation approaches and/or methodologies for peacebuilding projects or other interventions in complex settings, ideally in the peacebuilding sector or in conflict settings
- Clear experience in leading teams, strategic planning, people management and managing budgets is a strong asset
- Proven experience working with participatory evaluation methodologies
- Masters or higher degree in a relevant field
- Fluency in English is essential, other languages are assets
- Proven ability to work autonomously
- Proven ability to Think and work strategically
- Willingness to travel to conflict regions
