Position Overview:
The Human Rights Foundation is seeking a Director of Finance to build and lead a strong finance and accounting function that supports our growing operations. This person will work closely with the COO and President to develop and implement efficient financial systems, processes, and controls that ensure accuracy, compliance, and scalability.
The ideal candidate is someone who thrives on rolling up their sleeves, creating structure from the ground up, and continuously improving processes to support a mission-driven team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management and Oversight:
- Develop annual organization budget and lead departmental budget processes
- Ensure adherence to US GAAP standards
- Ensure compliance for both hard currency and digital currency transactions
- Collaborate with senior leadership and departmental managers to ensure scalability; Set and manage internal controls
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including review of journal entries, financial analysis, and preparation of financial statements for the Board and finance committee
- Serve as the primary liaison for external audits, including annual financial and 401(k) audits, ensuring all reports and documentation are accurate and compliant
- Produce monthly financial statements (SoA, SoFP, Cash Flow Analysis, BvA / variance) for COO / President, along with analyses
- Build financial models and projections based on 5 year strategic plan, investment, and Digital Currency SOPs
2. Grant and Program Financial Management:
- Oversee grant accounting and ensure compliance with funding agency requirements, overseeing budgeting, tracking, and reporting
- Work with program leaders to align program budgets, maintain cash flow, and track expenditures per budget and grant conditions
- Create grant reports for grantors
3. Leadership and Team Development:
- Supervise and mentor finance team members, promoting a high-performance, collaborative department
- Conduct performance evaluations, recommend training, and support professional growth within the finance team
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training for finance staff
4. Strategic Collaboration and Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with the COO, President and senior leadership to develop and implement strategies that support organizational objectives
- Develop and refine financial policies, standard operating procedures, and tools for efficient workflow and scalability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, including nonprofit experience
- Demonstrated success building or scaling finance operations in a fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, audit, and compliance.
- Experience with accounting software and financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Bill.com, expense management platforms, etc.)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset

Compensation:
$90K - $120K salary with comprehensive benefits package.
