Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Monitor and analyse globally and/or as assigned situations where there is a risk of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity (atrocity crimes), using the Office’s Framework of Analysis for Atrocity crimes and integrating new tools, including new technology; • Alert the Special Advisers to situations of concern; prepare analysis of country situations and recommend courses of action by the United Nations to protect populations where there is a risk of, or ongoing, atrocity crimes; • Participate in fact-finding and other missions to countries within assigned area of responsibility; • Assist in maintaining and managing of OSAPG early warning system • Represent the Office at United Nations inter-agency country and thematic working groups, task forces and other forums relevant to atrocity prevention and contribute to system-wide policy development; • Liaise with counterparts within the United Nations system and with Member States and civil society experts on matters relevant to the prevention of atrocity crimes and the implementation of the responsibility to protect; • Assist with drafting of advisory notes and reports to the Secretary-General; • Assist with thematic research and associated policy development, as required; • Assist with the preparation of briefings, speeches and public communications; • Assist in the preparation and organization of technical assistance and capacity building activities world-wide • Represent the office at conferences, seminars and academic forums relevant to the work of the Office, as required;

Education
A first-level university degree in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or related field
