Position description

Cefic is looking for a dynamic and passionate Trade Analyst to support the growing needs of our Trade Policy Team. This role will focus on strengthening Cefic’s capabilities in the area of European and global trade by monitoring and analyzing international trade flows, writing reports, supporting member companies as well as national associations and exploring the potential of digital tools and AI-based initiatives.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Trade & Customs Policy, the selected candidate will support the development of actionable, data-driven insights and customized products and services for Cefic members, enabling timely and strategic responses to evolving trade challenges. This role will also require interactions with European policy makers.

Inspired? You will:

      • Design and implement monitoring tools to detect and analyze trade disruptions such as import surges, trade diversion, or shifts in global supply chains. Develop digital dashboards, trackers, and visual products that communicate key trends and risks;
      • Analyse economic articles to capture economic and trade trends in the sector;
      • Assist in preparing trade policy briefings, member updates, and input to policy consultations;
      • Provide timely, tailored analysis and visual tools to support Cefic member companies in navigating trade policy challenges;
      • Support digitalisation and AI-related projects to automate trade data collection, pattern detection, and policy impact forecasting;
      • Work with external providers (e.g. data vendors, consultants, and tech platforms) to enhance Cefic’s access to high-quality, real-time trade data;
      • Support Cefic’s anti-dumping feasibility services to companies;
      • Engage and support member companies, sector groups and internal policy teams to ensure strategic and data alignment across Cefic’s trade agenda;
      • Contribute to the department’s service-oriented culture by actively listening to member needs and co-creating practical outputs with measurable value;
      • Work closely and proactively with other colleagues in the Trade Policy Team, contributing to a strong, team-based approach to all projects and initiatives.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience, competencies and personal qualities:

      • A Master’s degree in Economics, International Trade, Data Science, or a related field;
      • 2–3 years of relevant experience in trade analysis, policy advisory, or digital intelligence - preferably in an industry body, consultancy, or trade-focused institution;
      • Strong working knowledge of trade statistics and instruments (e.g. customs data, FDI data etc.);
      • Demonstrated experience with digital tools, dashboards, or AI-based analytics projects is a strong asset;
      • Ability to work with external service providers and translate technical deliverables into member-relevant outputs;
      • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data visualisation or statistical tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Python, R);
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; other EU languages are a plus;
      • A member-service mentality, with an ability to anticipate user needs and build practical solutions;
      • A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively in a policy-driven, multicultural environment;
      • Willingness for occasional travel.

You may ask yourself:

Why chemicals? The EU chemical industry powers all industries - wind turbines, batteries, insulation, recycling - all rely on chemicals. With 1.2 million workers, €655 billion turnover, and €10.2 billion R&I investment in 2023, it is Europe’s economic backbone. Yet, in the past two years alone, 11 million metric tons of production capacity have been lost, putting up to 200,000 jobs at risk. This is an industry worth your time and energy - as it has the ambition and the solutions to go climate neutral, circular and transition to safe and sustainable chemicals, while also safeguarding high-quality jobs in Europe

Why Cefic? For two years running, Cefic has been named ‘Best EU Trade Association’ by BestinBrussels and it is the largest association in Brussels, representing around 650 large and small chemical companies and associations around Europe. We tackle almost major issues; from climate change, energy, innovation, health, safety and environment, product stewardship, sustainability, and more. Cefic also represents around 80 Sector Groups on specific substance issues.

How do we do this? by offering guidance and training, supporting independent science and studies, aligning views on EU policies, and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders.

Why Trade? In light of the rapidly evolving economic and political global landscape, trade tensions, growing import pressure and unfair trade practices and the need to diversify trade partnerships with third countries, our trade team at Cefic is at the forefront of addressing these critical challenges. Joining our team means being part of a dynamic and proactive team that is dedicated to navigating the complexities of global trade and economic security, advising members and engaging with EU policy makers on solutions for our highly trade intensive industry. Our members are counting on us more than ever to support them, and you will play a vital role in driving meaningful progress. The trade team at Cefic is composed of passionate and skilled individuals who work collaboratively to develop solutions and advocate for our industry's interests. The team has run too small and we need to reinforce it, starting with fostering our expertise on trade data analysis.

What do we offer?

      • Working in a people oriented, international and dynamic culture at the centre of EU affairs;
      • An environment with a positive attitude towards stress and mindful of work – personal life balance;
      • Working on dynamic and challenging topics;
      • Opportunities for employee development (trainings, coaching, mentorship);
      • A full time permanent employment contract with a competitive salary, benefits and working conditions.
