ANERA is one of the oldest American non-profits working solely in Palestine and Lebanon. Strictly non-political and non-religious, ANERA delivers humanitarian relief in times of crisis and a range of development programs that have a long-lasting impact on their communities. The organization needs no sob stories to sell itself. Program successes in practically every community in Palestine and all throughout Lebanon demonstrate the meaningful difference ANERA donors are making.


The position

We're looking for a communications officer to help us better tap into all of our great resources and engage more people with our story. This full-time position is based in ANERA's Washington, DC headquarters. The role will be pivotal in our small but nimble global communications team that produces a host of substantive content. Over the upcoming year, ANERA will be refreshing our brand, making this a particularly exciting time to join our team.

Reporting to the vice president of communications, the communications officer plays a vital role in all communications functions, including website updates, strategy and message development, design and creative services for online and print purposes, social media strategy and updates, email campaigns and editorial support. The officer uses analytical tools, such as Google Analytics and Convio reports, to identify opportunities and develop strategies. S/he also is a key player in ANERA’s search engine marketing efforts (SEO/PPC) and marketing campaigns aimed at boosting donor engagement and raising funds.



  • Post new materials and update information on
  • Strategize and manage ANERA's presence on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Put a strategy for SEO best practices in place, ensuring it is followed and new trends are identified.
  • Develop and send email newsletters to engage ANERA supporters in online content.
  • Conceptualize, write and design a range of materials for fundraising and marketing.
  • Co-manage and maintain Google AdWords Account.
  • Track and evaluate effectiveness of social media efforts, informing staff of results and trends.
  • Together with the communications team, strategize and carry out integrated communications and fundraising campaigns.
  • Manage digital and communications support for regional events.




  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in communications/marketing, graphic arts, digital media or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in a full-time communications role
  • Demonstrated creative writing and editing skills for print and online marketing
  • Demonstrated graphic design skills, using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Sound understanding of marketing principles
  • Knowledge of web content management and basic HTML
  • Familiarity with website and social media analytics
  • Experience with Convio and Salesforce a plus
  • Knowledge of Palestinian and Lebanese history and current events a plus
