Position description

The failure of many countries to provide security and justice for their people, or to forge stable and predictable relationships with their neighbours, is a root cause of some of the world’s most significant security challenges. TI Defence & Security is working towards a world in which governments, the armed forces, and arms transfers are transparent, accountable, and free from corruption. We seek reforms toward open governments served by transparent defence institutions that are accountable to ordinary people and whose primary purpose is the protection of all citizens.

The Industry Integrity Team is responsible for addressing corruption within the global arms trade, defence industry and military procurement. The team is seeking to address some of the most challenging corruption threats which plague the defence industry; including how to foster a genuine ‘culture’ of anti-corruption within companies and how to control undue influence of the defence industry on policy making. The team have delivered a number of projects in the past including the Defence Companies Anti-Corruption Index. Other aspects of the team’s work include government engagement, procurement and legal reform and enhancing pressure on corrupt actors.

Our team is open and collaborative, and we offer excellent team spirit and an environment in which everybody contributes. Further details of our work can be found at

This role will support several research and advocacy projects within the Industry Integrity team. The team is in the first stages of conducting a study into defence industry influence on policy making in Europe and you will make a significant contribution in the further development and management of this important piece of research. You will also contribute significantly to the research for the next edition of the Defence Companies Anti-Corruption Index. This project requires extensive liaison with industry and other stakeholders, as well as high quality data collection and analysis. Although these projects will be the primary focus for this role, you will contribute to work across the team and the wider programme and this will include assisting with advocacy preparation and conducting fast time research in response to world events.

This is an exciting opportunity to have real impact. You will work as part of a dedicated international programme that is committed to fighting corruption within the defence and security sector. You will blend an international perspective, an ability to deal with complex problems and solid project implementation ability.  We are looking for someone who is motivated, organised and able to work independently.

The ideal candidate will have responsibility for the delivery of specific project tasks, including liaison with stakeholders, consolidation of research inputs and primary analysis. You will draft research reports and other communication materials. We expect the candidate to contribute both practically and intellectually to the successful delivery of high-quality research and advocacy with a focus on generating real impact.
