Position description

The Deputy Chief of Party will be responsible for the technical direction and management of programming to facilitate improved learning outcomes in early grade education. S/he will support program leadership to ensure all program deliverables are met, are timely, and are consistent with the program’s vision.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide technical leadership for program activities
  • Maintain familiarity with contract requirements and monitor compliance, deliverables, and deadlines
  • Monitor the quality and progress of all activities; when necessary, adapt activity implementation to achieve outcomes
  • Contribute to effective monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program activities
  • Provide program leadership with timely updates of activity developments, implementation issues, and key decisions
  • Manage the development of reports, work plans, and other program deliverables
  • Serve as a liaison with the donor, implementing partners, and key stakeholders including government representatives of Nepal
  • Work with the COP to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders
  • Manage and supervise a team of local staff and consultants
  • Support program leadership in identifying opportunities for inclusive programming and ensure activity components encourage full participation of individuals regardless of gender, disability status, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other marginalized status
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field; PhD preferred
  • A minimum of seven years of professional experience working in the education sector in Nepal, preferably on donor-funded development projects and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education
  • Early grade-level teaching, inclusion, curriculum development, teacher training, school financing and management planning, or related experience
  • Previous experience in a senior management role, providing technical and programmatic oversight
  • Previous experience working with the Ministry of Education in Nepal and various levels of government
  • Capacity to build technical skills and knowledge of local staff
  • Ability to work across various teams with excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders and navigate complex operating environments
  • Professional level of verbal and written fluency in English as well as in Nepali; Nepalese Nationals preferred
  • Commitment to inclusive programming that encourages full participation of individuals regardless of gender, disability status, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other marginalized status
