Position description

Since 1998, the Washington, DC office of the Mississippi Consortium for International Development (MCID) has partnered with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) to design and implement the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The program, designed to enhance mutual understanding through professional and cultural exchange, brings approximately 5,000 current and emerging leaders in government, politics, civil society, business, media, education, the arts, sciences, and other fields to the U.S. each year. 

 

This Program Manager position is located in Washington, D.C., so local residency will be required. Candidates, however, are expected to have reliable Internet access to accommodate remote work requirements.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and design IVLP programs on a broad range of issue areas to achieve project and U.S. foreign policy goals;
  • Cultivate and effectively manage relationships with State Department and other program partners and stakeholders to implement and coordinate all programmatic activities;
  • Produce high-quality work product/deliverables in adherence with IVLP policies and deadlines;
  • Manage administrative and logistical project components, including budget expenditures, tracking, and reporting, as well as transportation and lodging arrangements;
  • Organize virtual IVLP sessions via various videoconferencing platforms and facilitate in-person projects;
  • Troubleshoot emergency and unforeseen situations with tact and mature judgment;
  • Input and update information into internal and external databases, tracking spreadsheets and related systems.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required (with a focus on international affairs/relations preferred);
  • Five years of professional experience, including at least two years of complex programmatic and administrative responsibilities;
  • Project management experience, including providing information and responsive assistance to stakeholders in a deadline-driven environment;
  • Experience with federally-funded programs strongly preferred;
  • Experience with Zoom and other videoconferencing platforms.

  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities and high volumes of work under tight deadlines;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to interpret policy documents and write proposals, reports and routine correspondence;
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaborate effectively with a team;
  • Flexibility and adaptability to adjust to changing program and sponsor needs and requests;
  • Capacity to maintain composure, exercise good judgment and discretion, and engage in a culturally-sensitive manner in all situations.
