Position description

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of International Programs (IP), the Director of the Global Education Office (IP-GEO), provides vision and expertise in shaping and expanding inbound study abroad and certificate program opportunities for international students at UCLA Extension (UNEX). They will enhance student programming and services that are aligned with best practices in International Education. As a subject matter expert, they will achieve unit goals, operational excellence, and further the mission of continuing education for the department and UNEX.

The Director is primarily responsible for the vision/goal setting, strategic planning, administrative/operational oversight, people management, budget management, and business process enhancements of the IP-GEO. The position heavily involves the supervision of the IP-GEO Office's four administrative staff: two managers of International Student Certificate Programs and two International Programs Coordinators. Through their staff, they will operationalize and actualize the vision and achieve the strategic goals of the office. In addition to being a supervisor, will be a driver of program development and growth, conduct quality assurance of programs and services, and manage the overall budget of the office. They will also oversee and manage the office's administrative operations and process enhancements, which include oversight of program applications and enrollment; development and implementation of holistic, equitable, and multicultural advising; and overseeing support programming and services for UNEX international students. They will also provide leadership in developing new program models to expand revenue lines for international programs as well as develop relationships with key stakeholders across UCLA to increase access to resources and services. Lastly, the incumbent will be the primary lead, among the IP leadership team, responsible for crisis management and communications related to international students.

The Director is the main developer and manager of global education programs for UNEX; including a portfolio of programming to support students enrolled in incoming study abroad and international certificate programs and will explore opportunities for growth and diversification of both inbound and outbound programming available to international and domestic students. They will develop, plan, implement, and evaluate international programs and sustain, through the management of professional-level staff, an array of high-quality, high-impact, culturally focused global learning opportunities to meet the educational needs and goals of international students.

As a strategic tactical leader, the Director will identify strategies to promote the value of IP-GEO programs to students, parents/families, academics, and administration. Given this role, they will obtain, understand, and provide adequate consideration to others' priorities, opinions, and concerns, both to secure maximum input for analysis of and solutions for problems and to ensure reciprocal cooperation in working with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Additional duties include, in coordination with the Director of International Relations and Partnerships, managing and problem-solving specific issues relating to UNEX partners (agencies, international institutions, etc.) and quality controlling and updating the IP website. Other duties include the creation, maintenance, and oversight of the quality of orientation and program-related instructional materials in the Learning Management System (LMS); the development and maintenance of the International Student Handbook; nurturing existing and expanding relationships across UCLA to identify new opportunities and synergies to support international students; and performing market research on potential new programs.

Highly knowledgeable of U.S. and international higher education systems, policies, and laws relating to international educational programming and partnerships, including federal and state laws, University rules regulations concerning international certificate programs including but not limited to Title IX, Clery, etc.

22. Demonstrated expertise in using service technology accelerators such as live chat platforms, CRM systems, student information systems, and automated phone systems, plus Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
