Position description

The Government Affairs team is charged with monitoring, analyzing and advocating on key issues that affect Spotify’s business in the 180+ markets where our services are now available. One of our key roles is to identify legislative and regulatory developments and formulate policy strategies to promote Spotify’s goals. Spotify operates with a global perspective and as a responsible actor that is sensitive to local policy considerations in different markets.

Legislative and regulatory bodies worldwide are increasingly focused on updating rules that will impact both the digital economy and streaming services, and issues such as copyright and performer remuneration, content regulation, special rules for social media networks or broadcasters, algorithmic responsibility, digital taxation, cultural requirements, and competition can be nuanced and interlinked.

In this role, you will work as part of the global government affairs team, track developments and risks globally, and coordinate closely with key groups throughout Spotify. You will report to the Director of Global Music Policy, providing primary support on policies that impact Spotify as an audio streaming service. You’ll also support the team’s work on a range of priority public policy issues for the company.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor, analyze, and assist with developing written policy positions for legislative and regulatory matters in individual countries and geographic regions across the broad array of issues that affect Spotify operations and business plans internationally, with a focus on content-related policies
  • Draft briefing papers and contribute to consultation responses, including performing supporting research, issue-spotting reading, and preliminary analysis
  • Support the government affairs team in delivering regular communications to internal partners to ensure awareness of the potential implications of legislative and regulatory developments for Spotify
  • Interact with industry associations
  • Assist with developing effective and harmonized public policy positions and strategies that advance Spotify’s interests throughout the world

Who You Are

  • University degree in public policy, international relations, or similar field
  • Relevant professional experience monitoring, developing and implementing international public policy strategies in multiple geographic regions
  • Familiarity with a wide range of music and/or technology public policy issues
  • Ability to triage legislative and regulatory proposals in multiple jurisdictions quickly with respect to their potential impact on the company
  • Ability to work with machine translated texts / imperfect translations; knowledge of foreign languages a plus
  • Ability to synthesize viewpoints throughout the business and work cross-functionally to develop policy positions and coordinate strategy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills essential, with a demonstrated ability to think critically and explain complex issues to a range of audiences
  • Proactive team player with a can-do attitude
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to the team

Where You'll Be
