This position is based in Brussels, Belgium.

 

Reuters is looking for an outstanding journalist to cover European security during a critical moment for the region. With war raging in Ukraine, NATO bolstering forces on its eastern flank and governments ramping up defence spending, security has surged to the top of Europe’s political agenda. 

 

Based in Brussels, this person will be part of a pan-European team that aims to deliver agenda-setting coverage of Europe's security and the region's role in geopolitics. Stories they would cover could range from breaking news on military aid to Ukraine to investigative pieces on Europe's militaries or analysis of geopolitical tensions with China. 

 

The successful candidate will work with Reuters reporters around the world and help the Brussels bureau with broader coverage of the European Union as and when required. 

 

About the Role

 

As European Security Correspondent at Reuters, you will:

  • Cover news relating to European security.
  • Deliver top-notch scoops, analysis and enterprise reporting.
  • Operate in a team focused on Europe’s relations with the rest of the world.
  • Report from ministerial meetings, summits and crisis zones.
  • Have a strong source network that gets us inside the room and ahead of the competition on big stories.
  • Boost our coverage of international intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
  • Work closely with colleagues around the world to produce truly global coverage.

Qualifications

About You

You're a fit for the role of European Security Correspondent at Reuters if you have:

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering high-level journalism.
  • A strong grasp of international relations and military affairs.
  • Experience covering diplomacy, defence and/or security/intelligence.
  • Knowledge of how NATO and the EU work, preferably with sources in both institutions
  • A track record as an all-round journalist who can write strong copy in English at speed and under pressure, with attention to accuracy and fairness
  • Experience working as part of a team across borders and media
  • A talent for developing sources and a track record of breaking news that sets the agenda
  • A record of high-impact long-form stories
  • Fluent English, and preferably strong skills in French and/or other European languages
