Position description

We’re experiencing the most transformative workforce trend in decades with modern work. Cisco has always championed work-life balance without enforcing office returns–unlike many companies. In the process, we’ve set a new bar for hybrid work.

This role is part of a team that is dedicated to overall public relations support for the Chief People, Purpose and Policy Officer. Her remit encompasses a broad portfolio of responsibilities from Sustainability, Digital Upskilling, Reskilling, P&L areas, Company Mission and Purpose, Political Policy, Country Digitization among others.

You will be part of our award-winning Global Communications Team, which is comprised of over 200+ world-class communications professionals. This team is responsible for advancing Cisco’s reputation worldwide, crafting and delivering clear and compelling narratives that grab the attention of employees, investors, customers, partners, media and influencers.

Global Communications is home to Corporate and Technology Public Relations, Analyst Relations, International Relations, CEO and Employee Communications, as well as the Communications Intelligence and Cisco’s Storytelling content hub.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Public Relations Manager will support Cisco’s Global Public Affairs communications. This role will be responsible for promoting and protecting Cisco’s corporate reputation with global governments, evangelizing the innovative work we do with our customers and partners, and helping advance key public policy initiatives around the world.

We are looking for an experienced PR professional who enjoys working with media, has strong relationships with business and broadcast press and the ability to proactively craft angles of interest to media by investigating and sourcing internally. This person will thrive in a face-paced environment, and can multi-task, problem-solve and write. Open communication and a team-oriented approach are critical as we will rely on you to scale with our international and integrated Communications team colleagues. The day-to-day role includes:

- Drive innovative, proactive media campaigns and feature storytelling across business and broadcast media

- Foster media relationships with business and broadcast media

- Meet with business stakeholders, including our Chief People, Purpose and Policy Office and Diversity and Social Impact Office partners, to source and strategize proactive story angles – then convert into a plan and results

- Recommend topics to provide a POV by mapping what press are covering to stakeholders’ focus areas

- Turn strategy into clearly articulated, actionable communications plans with key deliverables which are regularly monitored and measured against business priorities and goals

- Messaging and content development

- Collaborate closely with international PR teams and other Comms functions to extend PR content and programs

- Manage PR agency

You will be an ambassador for the Cisco brand. You possess a unique combination of communications skills, excellent executive presence, an insatiable curiosity for finding stories (wherever they may be hiding), and of course, an aptitude for storytelling across multiple communication channels and media.

Qualifications

- 8-10+ years of experience in a Public Relations role required for consideration

- Strong media relationships and proven results

- Outstanding verbal and written communications skills

- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or Marketing or related field

- Experience in tech PR and/or Global Public Affairs PR

- Experience collaborating with other Communications functions (e.g. Social, Paid, International, Analyst Relations)

- Assess complex scenarios and boil them down into simple, effective communications strategies

- Comfortable juggling multiple priorities and reacting in real-time as priorities evolve

- Able to influence groups of peers and business leaders to rally them around a vision

- You are agile, a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced environment

- Experience driving cross-functional communications campaigns

- Extensive experience developing and driving communications plans to address identified gaps in current approaches
