Position description

Medicines for All (M4ALL), a part of Virginia Commonwealth University, is an entrepreneurial, impact-oriented institute dedicated to dramatically improving global access to lifesaving medicines. We achieve this through synthetic process innovation and advanced technology deployment to reduce costs and waste in small molecule drug substance manufacturing. Our work supports treatments for diseases such as TB, malaria, HIV, oncology, metabolic diseases, CNS, and immunology.

The Manager/Senior Manager: Partnerships – Global Health will play a critical role in expanding and managing M4ALL’s partnerships with global health stakeholders, including donors, philanthropic organizations, global health agencies, implementation partners, and contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs).

This role will be developed as a part-time (50% FTE/20 hours/week) role, with the potential to increase capacity as additional funding becomes available. The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of global health priorities, donor landscapes, and pharmaceutical supply chains while demonstrating exceptional stakeholder engagement and project management skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Partnership Development and Strategy

  • Identify, develop, and manage strategic partnerships with global health donors, funding agencies, NGOs, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and multilateral organizations (e.g., USAID, Gates Foundation, WHO, Global Fund, UNICEF).
  • Support the development of funding proposals, partnership agreements, and collaboration frameworks that align M4ALL’s capabilities with global health needs.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure partnerships align with M4ALL’s research, commercialization, and implementation strategies.
  • Develop and implement a partnership engagement strategy, ensuring long-term, high-impact relationships.

2.  Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Serve as M4ALL’s primary liaison to global health partners, managing ongoing collaborations and ensuring partners are engaged and informed.
  • Facilitate high-level discussions, negotiations, and joint initiatives with donor agencies, government health bodies, pharmaceutical partners, and impact investors.
  • Organize and participate in conferences, working groups, and forums to elevate M4ALL’s presence within the global health community.
  • Build and maintain a network of key decision-makers in global health organizations, ensuring M4ALL remains a trusted partner for donors and implementers.

3. Funding and Grant Management Support

  • Support the development of funding proposals and donor applications, ensuring alignment with global health priorities and compliance with funding requirements.
  • Track and manage existing grants and contracts, ensuring that deliverables are met and reporting obligations are fulfilled.
  • Work closely with finance and program teams to ensure efficient resource allocation and donor compliance.

4. Manufacturing and Implementation Partnerships

  • Collaborate with contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) to align M4ALL’s pharmaceutical innovation efforts with scalable, sustainable manufacturing solutions.
  • Develop partnerships with on-the-ground implementation partners in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to ensure effective distribution and access to medicines.
  • Work with M4ALL’s R&D and technical teams to align research outputs with commercial and global health market needs.

5. Program Management and Execution

  • Oversee the execution of partnership-related initiatives, ensuring smooth implementation and timely progress against key milestones.
  • Develop systems to track and evaluate partnership performance, ensuring M4ALL’s collaborations deliver measurable impact.
  • Work closely with communications teams to highlight partnership success stories and enhance M4ALL’s visibility in global health networks.

6. Continuous Learning and Thought Leadership

  • Stay informed on global health funding trends, policy shifts, and market dynamics to inform M4ALL’s partnership strategies.
  • Identify emerging opportunities for M4ALL to expand its impact, including new funding mechanisms, multi-sector collaborations, and innovative financing models.
  • Represent M4ALL in global health discussions, ensuring the organization contributes to thought leadership in sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing and access to medicines.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  •  Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public HealthGlobal Health, Business, International Relations, or a related field; or the experience and skills that equate to a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years (for Manager) or 8 years (for Senior Manager) in global health partnerships, business development, donor relations, or program management.
  • Industry Experience: Direct experience working with global health donors, NGOs, pharmaceutical manufacturers, global public health initiatives.
  • Partnership Development Expertise: Demonstrated success in developing and managing high-impact partnerships with global health stakeholders.
  • Strong Understanding of Global Health Ecosystem: Knowledge of funding structures, supply chain challenges, and access-to-medicine initiatives in LMICs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Negotiation: Proven ability to build relationships and negotiate agreements with funders, industry partners, and international organizations.
  • Project and Grant Management: Experience managing donor-funded programs, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting standards.
  • Strategic Thinking and Execution: Ability to translate global health priorities into actionable partnerships and initiatives.
  • Strong Writing and Presentation Skills: Ability to craft compelling funding proposals, reports, and presentations for diverse audiences.

  • Travel Requirement: This role requires regular travel as a core responsibility, including both domestic and international trips. Candidates should be comfortable with travel to support operational, collaborative, or strategic initiatives across multiple locations.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Advanced Education: Master’s degree in Public Health, Business, International Development, or a related field.
  • Experience with Major Donors: Direct experience working with or securing funding from USAID, Gates Foundation, Global Fund, WHO, Unitaid, or similar organizations.
  • Pharmaceutical Industry Knowledge: Understanding of contract manufacturing, API production, and supply chain optimization for essential medicines.
  • Global Health Policy Expertise: Experience in policy engagement, particularly related to medicine affordability, procurement models, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Business Development and Negotiation: Strong track record in structuring and negotiating partnership agreements with donors and industry partners.
  • Emerging Market Experience: Experience working with partners in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to drive medicine access initiatives.
  • Data-Driven Approach: Familiarity with impact measurement and evaluation frameworks for global health partnerships.
