Position description

The U.S. Digital Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible for helping to raise Humanity & Inclusion’s profile in the United States in support of Humanity & Inclusions 400+ projects in 55 countries, as well as Humanity & Inclusion’s advocacy work.

Under the supervision of the U.S. Director of Marketing & Communications, which includes fundraising, and working closely with the Humanity & Inclusion federation private fundraising, communications and information teams in Lyon, France, and other relevant teams, this position will ensure that Humanity & Inclusion’s digital footprint in the U.S. reflects our programmatic and advocacy priorities, and encourages globally-minded Americans to support our work as donors and advocates. This individual will also create digital and print collateral, support media relations when needed, and conduct other outreach initiatives. When in-person events begin after COVID-19, it may be necessary to support event production.

The U.S. Digital Marketing & Communications Officer will stay abreast of Humanity & Inclusion’s programs and will develop channels for communicating the impact of this work to the general public, which includes current and potential donors. Primary responsibilities include daily management of Humanity & Inclusion’s website and social media channels, along with relevant traffic-driving ads. The successful candidate will ensure that digital content supports and enhances Humanity & Inclusion’s private and institutional fundraising activities, and complements our work with media relations. The officer will also keep track of key performance indicators.

Essential tasks

  1. Manage www.hi-us.org (edit or write content for website, create and manage web pages, load photos, maintain accessibility, analyze traffic)
  2. Plan steady flow of content for social media with a goal to increase number of followers, in-app engagement, and visits to hi-us.org
  3. Plan, execute, manage and analyze success of ad campaigns across social media and Google Ads, for instance. 
  4. Design relevant digital and print collateral in support of the department goals

  • Keep abreast of international and national news;
  • Follow the development of Humanity & Inclusion activities, campaigns and programs;
  • Participate in regular global calls in the Network’s digital working group and information units;
  • Share updates with staff as necessary.

Write exceptionally well

You get a sense of pride when you distill two paragraphs into one, and can cut to the heart of a story quickly to create error-free copy. Deadlines don’t intimidate you. You can squeeze anything into 280 characters. You appreciate the expressive value of emojis. 

  • Review and edit all new content from our field programs or bloggers, prepare for publication and promotion across digital channels;
  • Write or contribute to digital and print newsletters;
  • Develop new collateral, such as brochures and graphics; 
  • Suggest and report new stories;
  • Support donor-focused communications.

Coordinate and plan digital


Nurturing a current, relevant user experience gives you a sense of pride. You’re happy when the website has a busy day, especially when donations fly through the door; but, you follow traffic back to its source to find out why, and pull a few levers to make the site even better for the next visitor. 

  • Tweak website landing pages for a smooth and accessible user experience;
  • Study user behaviors, and a/b test pages to ensure visitors take steps to join our work as newsletter subscribers or donors;
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of procedures for ongoing website revision and upkeep;
  • In collaboration with a consultant, monitor Google Ads to achieve quality website visits and conversions 
  • Plan editorial calendars in tandem with colleagues to ensure our marketing hits across all our channels to drive traffic to hi-us.org;
  • Support digital fundraising goals;
  • Develop and manage graphics and other multi-media for the website;
  • Create slideshows, videos and/or other multimedia as needed; 
  • Analyze and report on website traffic.

Social media

Just as comfortable with campaigns as with daily upkeep, you plan ahead to create a steady flow of engaging content for the people interested in our work. Every new follower, like, retweet, and share has meaning.

  • Maintain and enhance Humanity & Inclusion’s presence on social sites, such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube through promotion of Humanity & Inclusion news, campaigns and events;
  • Expand Humanity & Inclusion’s engagement and reach with an eye to catching the kind of people for whom our work resonates;
  • Plan and promote social media campaigns and ads, as needed;
  • Communicate the case for support of Humanity & Inclusion programs and effectiveness to all relevant audiences;
  • Review new social media communities and determine viability and effectiveness of our participation on new networks;
  • Analyze and report engagement metrics across social media each month. 


Support events and advocacy

The office hosts a handful of events each year, but with a small team it’s all hands on deck, and you’re happy to shift gears and focus on roll-up banners and guest lists for a few days. 

  • Support in the planning and delivery of events that promote Humanity & Inclusion’s programs, fundraising and advocacy objectives.


Carry out any other tasks as may be assigned, which may include media relations support. 



  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in digital marketing, fundraising, communications or related field such as journalism
  • Excellent written communications skills; deadline oriented
  • Proven digital skills, including familiarity with content management systems, email marketing, social media platforms 
  • Proven ability to simplify and synthesize complex issues and text
  • Proven ability to manage ad campaigns across social media and Google Ads, among other platforms
  • Proven design and layout skills, (e.g., InDesign) will give your application an edge
  • Experience with organizations promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, or directly with persons with disabilities, preferred
  • Experience ensuring representation and inclusion throughout communications & marketing materials, and ability to reach diverse audiences
  • Strong understanding trends in web usage, SEO, analytics, Google Ads, and other tools
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills 

Bonus if you do… 

  • Experience in international development and/or extensive travel preferred
  • Photography skills preferred, but not required
  • Video filming and editing skills preferred, but not required
  • Familiarity with national and regional media outlets
  • French language competency desirable, but not essential
  • International travel may be required (roughly 5% of time)
