Position description

The Communications Department is the IMF’s center for strategic communication. It develops and coordinates the Fund’s external and internal communications strategy, shapes key messages, and advises Management and staff on how best to convey those messages to the institution’s different audiences and stakeholders. The Department also monitors and responds to what is being said and written about the institution, both inside and outside the Fund. 

The Communications Department (COM) is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Communications Officer to join its Internal Communications Division (COMIN). The ideal candidate should be an all-around communicator, with outstanding writing, editorial and presentation skills; and a depth of experience in digital communications, including production and governance of Share Point Online (SPO) websites; experience in modern technologies adoption and communications plans; and familiarity with the use of AI for daily work (prompts, codes, etc.).  

COMIN is responsible for developing and implementing the Fund’s internal communications strategy to keep staff informed about institutional policies and programs, as well as workplace-related developments, while promoting a sense of community and shared mission within the Fund. COMIN helps shape institutional messages and advises senior management and staff on internal communication using multiple platforms, including the Intranet News articles, notices, videos, and podcasts. The division works closely with other departments to coordinate internal events and communications activities. COMIN manages the IMF Intranet homepage, and chairs the Intranet Council, the governing body for the intranet platform. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Under the general supervision the Division’s Management, the candidate’s will: 

  • Contribute to the overall work of COMIN, which requires working closely with COM's management team, other COM divisions, and other IMF departments. 

  • Support enhancing and optimizing internal communications, particularly through the establishment and enforcement of robust governance regarding internal digital platforms.  

  • Contribute actively to the COMIN digital team by helping to finalize the intranet revamp project (migration to SPO) and strengthening staff engagement through innovative digital and internal social communication initiatives. 

  • Assist with the enhancement of intranet governance by providing support to the Intranet Council Secretariat (under COMIN). 

  • Leverage data analytics from various internal platforms, to improve the effectiveness of internal communications and staff engagement. 

  • Draft and review key institutional products, including memos, talking points, and intranet articles. Support departments on their internal communications, and through active participation in COM matrix teams. 

  • Contribute to other work of the division, and additional assignments, as needed. 

 

Qualifications

The candidate must possess the following qualifications: 

  • Advanced university degree, or equivalent in communications, international relations, economics, or a related field, or a university degree, or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience are required. 

  • Good understanding of global economic issues as well as the IMF’s role, mandate, operations and policies is essential.  

  • Excellent knowledge of the internal communications function in organizations. 

  • Deep understanding and proven hands-on skills and experience with digital communications and data analytics. 

  • Experience with SharePoint Online, Pigeonhole app; Google Analytics, Adobe Acrobat & Adobe Campaign or other digital platforms required. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with good judgement and an ability to communicate persuasively. 

  • Demonstrated teamwork ability; ability to handle sensitive matters with good judgment and diplomacy; proven ability to manage short deadlines and balance overlapping requests. 

 

This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent's performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.
