Position description

Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. This is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector. CATF is highly respected for its deep expertise and research on energy and industrial systems and potential strategies, technologies, and policies that can radically shrink their impact on the planet’s atmosphere. Our team of experts and advocates (and global network of subject matter experts and civil society partners) put this research and knowledge into action by designing and enacting public policies that drive toward zero emissions. We also support policies and work directly with private industry to innovate in technology to make the path to zero emissions swift and affordable. CATF has offices in Boston, Washington D.C., and Brussels, with staff working virtually around the world.

Lead the Charge for Climate Innovation in Europe

CATF is seeking a Senior Director, Europe, to drive strategic growth and impact across the region.

CATF is a global nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. With more than 25 years of internationally recognized expertise on climate policy and a fierce commitment to exploring all potential solutions, CATF is a pragmatic, non-ideological advocacy group with the bold ideas needed to address climate change.

CATF’s effectiveness is rooted in its advocacy, technical expertise, and systems thinking. The Senior Director, Europe, plays a pivotal role in growing, harnessing and enhancing this effectiveness—providing vision, developing strategic and operational plans, and ensuring the organization’s initiatives are driven by focused, impactful action.

Why This Role Matters

Europe has been at the forefront of global climate action, and CATF has been uniquely impactful as a new voice in the region – with ambitions to deepen its influence in the years to come. It has introduced itself as a leading voice for pragmatic climate policy in Europe over the last five years and proven particularly impactful in securing support for expanding the array of available climate solutions, including carbon management technologies, clean hydrogen, nuclear energy, advanced geothermal, and fusion energy, as well as bringing methane management to the forefront.

The Senior Director, Europe serves as an authentic leader by demonstrating the courage to act with clarity and integrity, and a commitment to true climate impact. This leader is attuned to what is happening across the European economic, political and climate landscape, adept at diagnosing challenges and opportunities, and consistently established data- and values-driven responses. Through situational awareness, sound judgement, and the capacity to align CATF’s effort and capabilities with its mission, the Senior Director ensures that advocacy, technical expertise, and systems thinking are channeled into visionary yet practical action for climate progress. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of climate policy in one of the world’s most critical regions to advance lower-emissions energy and climate protection.

As Senior Director, Europe, you will:

      • In partnership with the CATF Executive Team, set the vision and lead the development of CATF’s pan-European strategy, aligning regional efforts with CATF’s global strategy and program goals, maintaining a regional, multi-lateral and global perspective.

      • In close partnership with development, lead the Region’s fundraising strategy, cultivating key donor relationships and securing critical funding to support organizational goals.

      • Serve as the key regional representative within the organization, advocating for regional priorities and collaborating closely with senior leadership to align strategies and resources. Engage collaboratively across the organization during the strategic planning and execution processes.

      • Lead and empower a high-performing team of policy experts, manage an efficient resource planning and create space for growth, development, and empowerment.

      • Oversee collaboration with government, industry and civil society to advance pragmatic, innovation-forward climate solutions, with the goal of positioning CATF as a trusted and expert partner.

      • Represent CATF at the highest levels, engaging with governments, industry leaders, funders, and media.
