(Roles and Responsibilities) Main Purpose of the Internship
The British Embassy in Quito is recruiting an Intern to support the Environment and Economic Diplomacy Team in delivering the UK’s objectives to promote sustainable growth in Ecuador.
The intern will contribute to the implementation of UK Government programmes in Ecuador focused on biodiversity conservation, climate change, ocean protection, forests, green finance, and economic analysis. The role will also support economic reporting and stakeholder engagement activities.
This internship offers valuable professional experience for an Ecuadorian undergraduate student, particularly those studying environmental sciences, ecology, biology, international relations, sustainable development, economics, finance, or related disciplines.
Roles and Responsibilities
The intern will support the team across the following areas:
- Conduct research and analysis related to the UK’s environmental and sustainability programming in Ecuador
- Support research and analysis on Ecuador’s economic development, including key indicators and regulatory frameworks
- Prepare one-page summaries, infographics, and short reports on programmes and projects delivered by the team
- Assist with due diligence processes for institutions and partners working with the Embassy
- Support stakeholder mapping, engagement activities, high-level visits, and programme implementation
- Assist in organising events, including developing databases, drafting agendas, preparing communication materials, and managing invitations
- Act as a liaison between the Environment and Economic Team and the Embassy Communications Officer to disseminate key information through social media channels
- Support the development of project proposals and bids aligned with the team’s strategic priorities
- Contribute recommendations to support the strategic development of the team and its programmes
- Work flexibly as part of the wider Embassy team to support broader Embassy objectives as required
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in the final year of an undergraduate degree at an Ecuadorian university in a relevant field
- Enrolled in an undergraduate programme at the time of application and contract signature
- Demonstrated interest in environmental issues, economic development, and the UK Government’s work in Ecuador
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
- Strong analytical, research, and reporting skills
- Proactive approach with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage time effectively
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- Ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish
- Legal right to live and work in Ecuador at the time of application
Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Knowledge of international cooperation or environmental programmes and initiatives
- Previous experience working with local communities on environmental topics such as oceans, forests, protected areas, or biodiversity
- Familiarity with communication and digital engagement tools
