Position description

The Global Fund for a New Economy seeks a Global Head of Media to set our media relations strategy across our growing network of ten national Communications Hubs.

 

The Fund was established in early 2024 to catalyze a more impactful global movement for a New Economy; one that is more inclusive, more sustainable, and pro-democracy. The network of Communications Hubs will invest heavily in building the capacity of the New Economy movement to contend the “common sense” of how the public and insiders think about economic policy. Working across traditional and digital media, the network will support advocates on a wide range of topics from Just Transition through to sellers’ inflation and the corporate concentration of power in Big Tech. 

 

This is a unique opportunity to work with partners internationally and across ten countries to set the media agenda on key New Economy communications topics.

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Set-up and run a high level international spokesperson operation
  • Deliver coaching and support for our network of national Communications Hubs to improve the quality and quantity of their media bookings
  • Coordinate the national Communication Hubs and our partners on and around key international media moments
  • Cross organizational and team management

 

Person specification:

The Head of Media will be a well-established leader or expert in media relations - ideally with direct experience working on economic justice, environmental or another issue area with a strong economic component. They will have:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years in senior communications roles, preferably covering New Economy topics.
  • A track record of high-level media interventions that change the minds of policymakers and have traction with the broader public. 
  • Experience of collaborating with a broad set of people and movements, with a view to building relationships and skills and knowledge transfer.
  • Contacts in international media, including media platforms in the global south, and the ability to build contact databases and relationships quickly.
  • Extensive experience working in or with partners in the Global South, ideally with experience of our priority countries.
  • Expertise in both long-term communications work and day-to-day media booking with an ability to work at both high tempo and at a higher level to shift the arc of a story.
  • Experience in building a substantial media presence ideally on or around new economy topics.
  • Knowledge of print media - from ghost writing to drafting press releases.
  • Experience of working proactively and collaboratively with a variety of partners across different cultures, country and regional contexts, and timezones. Ideally, you will have experience of training, skills development, and sharing best practice, as well as an approach which is sensitive and aware of cultural nuance.
  • Experience of work in more than one country is required with multiple languages spoken preferred.

Job Specifications, Compensation and Benefits:

Location: Remote, but travel is expected to meet colleagues from GFNE, partners and allied organizations. 

Working hours: Full-time. Some flexibility will be necessary to ensure effective working with a global team.
