Position description
A Regional Affairs Analyst III is responsible for conducting in-depth research, analysis, and evaluation of regional issues and policies. They provide strategic insights and recommendations to support decision-making and facilitate effective regional operations.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Regional Affairs Analyst III: $80,000 to $110,000
Pay commensurate with experience.

Regional Affairs Analyst III Responsibilities Include:
- The contractor has no inherently government responsibilities. The contractor shall obtain USG supervisory clearance and/or approval pertaining the position work requirements and/or work products. The contractor shall abide by all State Department, Procurement Information Bulletins (PIB) related to third-party contractor services.
- Can perform work where guidelines are scarce or of limited use and administrative policies and precedents are applicable but stated in general terms.
- Uses initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods or researching trends and patterns to develop new methods, criteria, or proposed new policies.
- Performs varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods applied to a broad range of activities or substantial depth of analysis.
- Makes decisions on the approach, methodology, or interpretation and evaluation processes to be used as a result of continuing changes in program, technological developments, unknown phenomena, or conflicting requirements.
- Originates new techniques, establishes criteria, or develops new information.
- Establishes criteria; formulates projects; assesses program effectiveness; or investigates or analyzes a variety of unusual conditions, problems, or questions.
- Provides products or services that affect a wide range of agency activities, major activities or industrial concerns, or the operation of other agencies.
- Works with persons or groups to obtain a desired effect, such as gaining compliance with established policies and regulations by persuasion or negotiation or gaining information by establishing rapport with a suspicious informant.
- Presents State Department positions that pertain to regulatory framework and regional or country-based issues to both foreign and domestic industry experts, subject matter experts, and governmental entities to audiences of at least 150.
- Initiates Blue Lantern checks, including drafting and clearing cables.
- Provides input into papers drafted by other State offices.
- Drafts papers with few technical or grammatical errors.
- Provides guidance to Post on implementation of Blue lantern checks.
- Provides briefings in EUM training and outreach events.
- Releases Watch List holds in a timely manner.
- Supports briefings to senior USG personnel, foreign government officials, industry, and the Hill with moderate knowledge of U.S. defense trade.
- Develops denial/RWA/proviso recommendations to DTCL with few edits required from team lead.
- Develops short notice reports on foreign export control systems and countries’ export/import trends related to munitions.
- Initiates, drafts, and assembles Direct Commercial Sales “Country Reports.”
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Regional Affairs Analyst III Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in International Relations, Political Science, or related field of study.
- Very good verbal and written communication skills.
- Very good organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects consistent with established timeframes.
- Very good ability to synthesize information and develop recommendations for management based on an analysis of the information.
- Very good judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Has working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs and be able to operate all office equipment including but not limited to: telephones, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, printers, and computers.
- May be required to travel within Domestic and/or International.
