The Embassy is now recruiting for a Post Security and Deputy Fire Safety Manager.

Our successful candidate will promote a safe and secure working environment for the staff and visitors of the British Embassy and UK Mission to the EU in Brussels through high standards of management of protective physical security.

The role will involve being on call (an allowance is payable) and the role will require, on occasion, some long hours above the contracted weekly hours, including sometimes outside core hours or at weekends. CSB does have the advantage of offering Time off in Lieu (TOIL) for extra time worked. CSB also offers flexible working where possible.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all staff and visitors are safe and secure through robust access control and physical security checks across all Mission buildings;
  • Oversee the effective day-to-day management, motivation and professional training of a team of Security Officers and Contracted Guards across Mission buildings;
  • Provide a professional interface with the public including consular visitors;
  • Responsible for security vetting for new staff joining the Three Missions, managing breach procedures and issuing security reports to London;
  • Responsibility for conducting and leading security training including fire, emergency and evacuation drills; updating and maintaining the Post Security Regulations;
  • Act as secretariat to the Post Security Committee, responsible for identifying and managing potential threats to staff and buildings, including staff residential accommodation, working closely with the Regional Security Advisor;
  • Maintain CCTV systems, access control and related security systems;
  • Promote security awareness and culture at post, providing advice to staff and dependants on security risks;
  • Close liaison with local security organisations including Police, the MFA and Interior Ministry, associated Diplomatic/Country Based security managers of friendly missions;
  • Maintain a log of daily occurrences/events/function and visitors;
  • Role of the Deputy Fire Safety Manager by testing fire and emergency alarms weekly;
  • Conduct regular drills and training on security issues (eg.. Run, Hide Tell; Think Before You Link).

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Our Ideal Candidate shows:

  • Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • A minimum of 5 years previous security experience;
  • A minimum of 2 years previous experience of staff management;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Ability to work unsupervised;
  • Flexibility & ability to maintain professionalism under pressure;
  • Full driving licence;
  • Relevant PC experience including MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Nice to have:

  • Full professional proficiency in French and/or Dutch (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • A training background/experience in managing and developing staff.
