Position description

The Reducing Emissions Campaign Manager will develop strategies and identify opportunities for the organization to align the efforts and actions of our volunteer base to make a tangible impact in reducing emissions across the globe. They will operate within the Campaigns team, working closely with the Global Campaigns Director and the Campaigns and Field SVP, to integrate emissions reduction into the broader work of the organization and ensure we are accurately measuring our impact and telling our story. They will directly oversee local grant-funded efforts in the Ohio River Valley, support emissions reduction initiatives of our US chapters and international branches, lead on actions for our network of global leaders and actively engage with coalition partners and funders.

Currently reporting to the Campaigns and Field SVP, the Reducing Emissions Campaign Manager will manage two Regional Organizers on the Ohio River Valley petrochemical campaign. This is a full time, exempt, benefits-eligible, hybrid position. The Climate Reality Project offers a flexible hybrid schedule, with staff working from our office in downtown Washington, DC at least two days per week to enable and encourage collaboration within and among teams. The salary for this role is $86,700-$88,434 USD per year.

Requirements

Supervisory

  • Create an environment where supervisees feel comfortable sharing ideas and suggestions

General

  • Continue to build on overall strategy and theory of change with guidance from Campaigns and Field SVP, and develop and steward concrete implementation plans for the global reducing emissions campaign for our network to take collective global actions to reducing emissions
  • Serve as organization’s lead expert on reducing emissions and related policies, research, trends, and areas of focus, regularly providing trainings and briefings to raise internal understanding and external profile of the organization’s work on this campaign
  • Develop strategies and tactics for reducing emissions across the globe with organizational assets
  • Coordinate and align the existing emissions reductions efforts happening in our US chapters and international branches to ensure maximum impact
  • Manage the strategic operation, budget, and reporting of the Ohio River Valley petrochemical campaign, ensuring that the goals of the campaign align with the organizational goals and the goals of coalitions and partners in the region
  • Partner with Advancement team to identify, cultivate, secure funding, and as appropriate, manage relationship with funders
  • Lead gathering, evaluation, and analysis of impact across the organization on work related to reducing emissions. Utilize this information to produce outcomes and compliance reports in accordance with grant and organizational requirements on time sensitive deadlines
  • Coordinate with Training and Events team to support training content and actions, and with the Science, Solutions, and Policy team to determine strategic policy actions that our volunteers can take related to the campaign
  • Build and maintain relationships with coalition partners, coordinating closely with Climate and Environmental Justice and Partnerships teams to maximize organizational and community engagement
  • Engage with the Digital, Creative, and Reality Hub teams to create press releases, blogs, social and earned media, and other communication materials to enhance public awareness on the importance of climate finance in solving the crisis
  • Proactively work with the Science, Solutions, and Policy team to ensure that all campaign materials support our volunteers and are in alignment with the strategic goals of the campaign
  • Support and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our operations and enrichment of our culture, for example by serving on ad hoc or ongoing work groups, assisting with the onboarding and training of colleagues, and participating in efforts to assess, refine, and strengthen our culture and practices

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Detailed knowledge of a broad range of campaign strategies and tactics, with proven ability to create and translate strategy into actionable campaign plans
  • Proven track record with coalition building, volunteer engagement, grassroots or field organizing in North America and at least one additional global region
  • Project management acumen, including ability to coordinate across multiple departments, set team priorities, manage several projects simultaneously, set and meet timelines, and anticipate obstacles and opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
  • Demonstrable strategic thinker, excited about innovation, creativity, and possess problem-solving acumen
  • Personal commitment to Climate Reality’s mission and demonstrated knowledge of climate, civil rights and environmental issues
  • Ability to work under short deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, team-based environment
  • Professional proficiency in a language in addition to English highly desired
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally several times per year

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in campaigning, program management, and/or community organizing
  • At least three years of experience building and managing a team
  • Experience with and awareness of cultural diversity with a lens on equity and justice and possess the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of organizations, coalitions, and volunteers
  • Experience designing and implementing strategic campaigns to encourage action and change policy and/or behavior toward environmental, climate justice and/or emissions reduction
  • Experience working with funders, including grant writing and impact reporting highly desired
