The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation's leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since our founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political.

AAUW conducts groundbreaking research on issues related to gender equity in education and the workplace. Through new and traditional media, targeted outreach to policymakers, and member efforts, AAUW research serves as a catalyst for action.

Summary Description:

The Research Associate provides research and administrative assistance to the Vice President of Research and a Senior Researcher. Sixty percent of the work is research and the remaining forty percent is administrative. The primary task is conducting literature reviews and descriptive statistics related to gender equity in education and the workforce. Administrative tasks will include managing team calendar; coordinating work with other departments in AAUW; providing logistical support for events including correspondence, travel arrangements for participants; and related tasks. The Research Associate will monitor the research email account and the ShopAAUW account, arrange webinars and other events. She/he will collect data on the impact of research such as media, social media and public policy.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct literature reviews of academic, advocacy and government sources;
  • Prepare bi-annual updates of The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap;
  • Prepare tables and charts from government data sources using Excel;
  • Prepare Power point presentations;
  • Edit, fact check and proofread reports and documents;
  • Contribute to blogs and social media;
  • Manage department calendar;
  • Organize electronic files;
  • Maintain a database of citations of media and social media;
  • Write professional correspondence;
  • Coordinate work with other departments in AAUW;
  • Attend meetings on behalf of research;



  • Bachelor degree in a Social Science (such Sociology, Public Policy, Economics or Education);
  • Demonstrated interest in the mission of AAUW;
  • A college level class in Statistics;
  • At least one college-level course in Women's Studies;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to manage multiple work responsibilities and deadlines simultaneously;
  • At least two years of professional work experience;
  • Sense of humor.


  • Familiarity with SPSS or other statistical software package.
