Position description

The Program Associate will focus on HRF's Freedom Fellowship program and work directly with the Freedom Fellowship Manager and alongside colleagues in the policy, events, development, and communications departments.

 The Freedom Fellowship program is a fellowship offered to human rights advocates, social entrepreneurs, and non-profit leaders from challenging political environments around the world with the unique opportunity to dramatically increase the impact of their work. During the program, the fellows work with a team of mentors to focus on the areas of activism, leadership, fundraising, technology, and communications.

The ideal candidate will have at minimum an academic understanding of political regime types across the world, good digital security knowledge, and the capacity to work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.




The Program Associate’s responsibilities include:

-       Handling logistics related to fellows’ travels and visa applications

-       Coordinating meetings for fellows

-       Researching social and political movements around the world

-       Researching potential fellowship partnerships

-       Drafting communications, grant reports and grant proposals.

-       Administrative projects and tasks as assigned



We are looking for a candidate who is/has:

  • Interested in promoting human rights globally and a background in human rights or international relations is a plus
  • highly organized
  • thorough and detail-oriented
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills       
  • the ability and willingness to travel abroad      
  • the ability to work under pressure
