Job Summary:

The educational Internship Program at the EastWest Institute provides talented students and recent graduates with a three-month (or longer) unpaid training opportunity designed to encourage professional and personal development. We encourage out-of-the-box thinking and value fresh perspectives. 

As part of the educational training process, interns will learn to work closely with their supervisor on research projects, administrative and logistical support, and other necessary tasks specific to their respective department. Additionally, interns will add to their skill sets by attending informal and formal learning sessions and an optional Research project.


The RUS program seeks to bridge the strategic divide between Russia and the United States by sustaining dialogue and fostering mutual understanding in critical areas affecting the bilateral relationship. The EastWest Institute seeks an energetic, detail-oriented and results-driven intern to provide logistical, administrative, and research support and to assist with the planning and organization of programmatic events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Logistical and administrative tasks relating to the planning and organization of RUS dialogues, and other NY-based events as applicable;
  • Compilation of briefing materials and research assistance on topics related to the overall U.S.-Russia relationship and other topical areas relevant to RUS programmatic work (for example, developments in Russian politics, bilateral military cooperation, Ukraine);
  • Assistance in researching donor and other funding prospects forRUS programmatic work;
  • Administrative tasks related to general RUS operations;
  • Other tasks as assigned.


  • Student enrolled in a relevant graduate or undergraduate degree program or a recent graduate (if you are planning to continue your education within the next six months); 
  • Background and interest in international relations or security studies desirable; 
  • Good writing ability;
  • Fluency in English a must. Proficiency in Russian is an advantage.
  • The ability and drive to perform in a fast-paced international environment; 
  • PC literate (Google Suite; Salesforce); Internet-research savvy;
  • Team player, highly motivated, flexible and able to efficiently handle multiple tasks.
