Position description

This position is with Strategic Perspectives, a pan-European think tank created to promote effective climate action as the solution to a multitude of interconnected crises facing the EU. Strategic Perspectives is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.

The Energy Analyst will support the team in the design and implementation of Strategic Perspectives' emerging EU gas exit strategy. This person will contribute to research and analysis on gas and the EU energy system, to developing a sectoral gas phase-out data tool and to build stakeholder coalitions. This position will report to the Director of Strategic Perspectives.

This is an exciting opportunity for an energy expert with the ambition to make a difference and play an active role in helping speed up the fossil fuel phase out across the EU.

The right candidate is a self-starter and team player, with a proven interest in EU and international energy developments and good understanding of the political economy and dynamics around gas use. You have experience in EU energy and climate policy making and the way it intersects with politics at national and international levels. You want to use this knowledge and your network in defining and implementing our approach on the energy transition.

If this sounds like you, we'd love for you to apply.

How you'll contribute

  • Supporting the team with analysis on the EU and national energy policies, contributing to design and implementation of Strategic Perspectives strategy on energy and  working in close collaboration with partners,
  • Facilitating the design of a data tool on gas demand reduction based on different decarbonation scenarios,
  • Monitoring developments, policy decisions and emerging narratives in the European energy debate, and thus acting as a source of information and updates for the team and an international communications network we work closely with,
  • Drafting well-sourced documents that can form the basis for briefings, reports, policy recommendations, blogs or other media interventions,
  • Mapping potential stakeholder coalitions that could support and lead sectoral gas phase out.
  • Developing and growing a network of global contacts.

Our ideal candidate has

  • Relevant degree/level of education and proven professional experience within the field
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the EU energy policy-making, including the gas market, and recent policy developments (e.g REPowerEU),
  • Professional experience in energy or climate policies, EU affairs, and research.
  • Ability to assess a changing political landscape, identifying the most crucial intervention points that add value to the overall discourse,
  • Proven ability to conduct research independently and to summarise complex processes in an appealing way, including on EU policy making,
  • Outstanding English language skills, with a track record of producing engaging communications materials, good French and German language skills are a strong asset.
  • Motivated and proactive team-player with a passion for excellence,
  • Strong time and priority management, a can-do mentality and ability to work on different topics at the same time,
  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers,
  • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.
