Position description

The Senior Policy Advisor provides technical support to the programmatic unit, other office units and Ipas Mexico Director in the areas of policy and advocacy, in support of the Ipas mission and vision of a world where every woman and girl has the right and ability to determine her own sexuality and reproductive health. The Senior policy advisor provides leadership in areas of policy and advocacy, and work through local, national and global partnerships to ensure Ipas mission, women and girls have improved sexual and reproductive health and rights, through enhanced access and use of contraceptive and safe abortion care. The Senior Advisor leads in designing and implementing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) policy and advocacy initiatives, and works collaboratively with a wide range of partners and stakeholders at the national and state level in Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • In close coordination with Project leaders is responsible to Lead the planning and implementing policy and advocacy activities in each project, monitoring progress, evaluating results, and proposing strategies and changes as necessary;
  • Provide technical assistance in the policy and advocacy area for the entire Ipas Mexico portfolio, and to local governments and partners as needed;
  • Identify and maintain appropriate partnerships and alliances to achieve project and organizational policy and advocacy goals;
  • Represent Ipas in appropriate in policy and advocacy fora;
  • Lead in knowledge sharing, internally and externally, through results reports, publications, social media, conferences and other methods;
  • Monitor the SRHR sector and policy developments in Mexico, including opposition strategies and activities;
  • Serve as a member of the Ipas Mexico leadership team;
  • Lead in program development efforts to maintain and grow the Ipas Mexico portfolio, including maintaining positive donor relationships and proposal writing.

Qualifications

Minimal Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Five or more years of experience in SRHR policy and advocacy 
  • Experience in project planning and management 
  • Deep commitment to women’s reproductive health and rights
  • Availability to travel 20-30%

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s or advanced degree in relevant field 
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization
  • Established relationships with reproductive health and rights organizations
  • Experience in budget oversight
