Position description

Internship (this is a support role to our full-time team who work across markets in Germany and the EU)

As a Policy Intern with a focus on German and EU policy, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of work as part of a growing business. With a keen eye for detail, bags of energy, and a can-do attitude, you’ll enjoy juggling multiple tasks. You’ll have native-level German, with a professional standard of English, and a strong knowledge of one or both political systems.

What you’ll do

You’ll learn how to monitor and analyse German/EU policy on a daily basis to keep our clients informed of legislative developments as they happen. Real-time monitoring requires grit and determination as well as a love of policy.

We’ll train you to write concise summaries of policy debates. Full professional proficiency in German is therefore a must. You’ll also assist the creation of our popular daily and weekly e-mails and special reports, as well as playing a support role on our social media channels.

Qualifications

You’ll have an understanding of political systems and a passion for policy. You’ll enjoy reading policy documents and tracking the legislative procedure. Striving for consistency at all times, you’ll be the person at Uni who people asked to proofread their work.

We’re looking for policy and client-focussed team players and you’ll need to remain calm under pressure. In practice, this means you enjoy helping people and will be excited by the idea of learning fast on your feet and taking on responsibility quickly. You’ll naturally look for solutions rather than problems.

You’ll have an analytical mind and enjoy ‘joining up the dots’ between policy areas. A positive attitude at this stage of your career is more important than experience, although we would expect you to demonstrate an understanding of the EU or German legislative process and have a passion for policy that goes beyond your studies. You’ll enjoy being part of a small team and be sociable.

You’ll be able to demonstrate independence through your previous paid work experience (part-time is fine – our Co-Founders have worked in shops, supermarkets, bowling alleys, and call centres). You’ll be confident but you won’t have an ego.

Education

For this internship position we are more interested in your character and how you learn rather than where you studied, although we do expect Masters level education as standard.
