This position will join a team of international peers on our Cybersecurity Strategy & Global Policy team. This position will be part of a fast-moving, collaborative legal team that impacts all policy and government affairs. The team is focused on engaging in the development and implementation of legislation, policies, regulations and programs aligned with the company’s strategic interests. We also build trusted relationships with government officials to create meaningful partnerships while expanding our global visibility and reputation as the global cybersecurity leader.
The Director or Senior Director, Global Public Policy, in support of the Vice President, Cybersecurity Strategy and Global Policy, will expand and manage the international policy practice in a fast-growing, impactful global cybersecurity company. The person will support strategic business, engage on strategic policies, and build/maintain strategic relationships for the company in international markets.
You should be based in Washington, DC, or Santa Clara, CA.
The successful candidate for this role will be a seasoned international cybersecurity policy professional with extensive expertise and experience in these activities. We are seeking a colleague who enjoys working independently but is committed to working collaboratively in a team environment within a fast-paced and dynamic company, and who is enthusiastic about developing practical approaches to policy issues. He/she should have a solid understanding of policymaking institutions and substantive personal connections among relevant policymakers and influencers.
The Director or Senior Director, Global Policy will report to the VP, Cybersecurity Strategy and Global Policy and coordinate closely with team members in EMEA and JAPAC.
Strategic relationships/engagement – build upon existing relationships and identify new key officials, organizations, and other stakeholders with whom Palo Alto Networks should engage to increase the visibility of the company in cybersecurity-related communities; develop and execute a detailed plan for engagement
Strategic policies - Monitor and shape current and emerging public policy issues impactful to the company and our customers, including on cybersecurity, certifications, data flows, cloud, privacy and other policies in priority countries, in collaboration with local team members as appropriate, and develop and execute strategies to engage on these policies in the company’s interest
Strategic business facilitation – Support efforts of Policy and Public Sector teams globally to facilitate business conversations with senior government officials, government CIOs, and other cybersecurity stakeholders of public sector organizations
Provide public policy advice to internal business leaders and work collaboratively with business units (including legal, regulatory, marketing, product management, sales, and others) to ensure that Palo Alto Networks has the information needed to make strategic decisions with critical impact on the company’s business model
Build and maintain global network of U.S. and foreign government officials and related influencers in academia and the private sector
Contribute to development of company’s baseline policy positions to use domestically and globally, to ensure consistent messaging and advocacy across borders
Partner/coordinate closely with Global Policy team members in EMEA, JAPAC, and the United States to ensure globally consistent messaging and approaches
Liaise internally with other corporate functions to identify key areas of focus and provide timely public policy positions, insights, and written materials in relation to those identified areas, related business initiatives, and government regulatory activities
Present company’s policy positions via written position papers and comments, meetings, briefings, technical exchanges, and via multiplier organizations (e.g. trade and industry associations); present at conferences and related opportunities
Support VP, Cybersecurity Strategy and Global Policy, CSO team, and other senior executives in their efforts to increase company name recognition and operational relationships
Identify thought leadership opportunities and operational partnerships appropriate for the company’s EMEA CSO, Unit 42 threat research team, and other experts
Contribute to briefing papers, speeches and materials for senior executives, as needed
10-15+ years of relevant international cybersecurity policy or technology policy experience (experience working in both government and industry preferred)
Strong background engaging on cybersecurity, data flows, cloud, data localization, and related government policies globally
Extensive network of U.S. and foreign government, academic, and industry cybersecurity-related experts and influencers
Track record supporting sales teams and passion for building strategic business relationships
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and consensus with a variety of constituencies both inside and outside an organization
Experience managing large, cross-functional, and globally dispersed teams, projects, and programs
High degree of entrepreneurship, leadership, independent negotiation, and decision-making skills
Excellent communication skills: writing, verbal, and presentations
Excellent interpersonal, relationship management, team, and diplomatic skills
Excellent business judgment, strategic thinking skills, superior work ethic, attention to detail and quality, able to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure

Ability to work across multiple time zones, countries, and cultures
Advanced degree in international relations, public policy, or related field
International and domestic travel required
Overseas living experience and/ or language abilities preferred
