Position description

Our Public Affairs team is based in London, close to the UK government and policy makers. The team is in a unique position as it works across all of our 3 divisions. This internship will enable the successful applicant to get a full appreciation of Airbus as an entire business and its complexities. This cross-divisional work may also present opportunities to visit many sites located across the UK such as Broughton, Filton,  Newport, Stevenage and Portsmouth to name but a few. 

 

There are three internship positions available. We will have one intern based in Broughton, North Wales, one in Filton, near Bristol and one in London. You will be part of the wider Public Affairs team and you will travel between sites. 

  • Broughton, North Wales: Broughton is our largest UK site and is home to our commercial aircraft wing manufacture. The successful applicant will support the Public Affairs lead for Wales focused on areas relevant to our Welsh footprint. A focus on advanced manufacturing and productivity and engaging with local MPs and MSs on local issues. You will also support VIP visits at our sites in Broughton and Newport. 

  • Filton, Bristol: Filton is our engineering hub in the UK with a focus on wing technology, landing gear and fuel systems. The successful applicant will support the Public Affairs lead for Filton and the South West focused on commercial aircraft and policy areas such as R&T and innovation, decarbonisation and skills policy. You will also support VIP visits at Filton. 

  • London: Our office in London, close to Westminster, is focused on our engagement with the UK government and Parliament across a range of policy areas relevant to our business divisions - Commercial Aircraft, Defence & Space, and Helicopters. The successful applicant will be part of the UK Public Affairs team across and work on a variety of policy areas and campaigns. 

 

What you will be doing:

 

The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills (research, analytical, project management, communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully. Some of the typical activities you will be involved with are outlined below.

 

Political Relations:

  • Providing support for the Public Affairs team in the UK, including the Senior Vice President Head of Public Affairs, Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space and Helicopters, as well as other members of the wider senior Airbus in the UK management team in terms of executive briefings;

  • Where necessary, attend policy and committee hearings in Parliament and, on occasions, attend events in Parliament and the Welsh Parliament;

  • Provide coordination support for stakeholder mapping and management;

  • Assist with VIP visits to Airbus sites, event planning and implementation of Public Affairs events;

  • Production of weekly political up-date for senior management.

 

Public Policy Research:

  • Prepare Public Affairs reports;

  • Providing a tracking and monitoring service of key public policy developments which may affect the company eg general Government policy, defence and innovation policy, manufacturing, skills and training, legislation and exports;

  • Analysing policy developments and preparing briefings for internal and external company use;

  • Preparing presentations on public policy issues.

 

Requirements:

 

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Studying towards a degree in Politics, International Relations, Economics, Government Relations, Public Policy, History, or equivalent;

  • Interest in current affairs;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

  • Excellent use of English and numeracy;

  • Collaborates well within a team;

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic;

  • Well organised.

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).
