Position description

E3G Inc. seeks brilliant and dedicated thinkers to join its dynamic team, as it grows its capacity to respond to the challenge of deepening global climate cooperation at a time of increasing international tension and fragmentation. E3G Inc. is recruiting two candidates through this posting. Both will be based in Washington, DC. Building a climate safe world requires aligning different forces in society to create the laws and institutions necessary to drive change. E3G’s work sets out to understand how countries’ economic conditions interact with their political systems to produce decisions on climate change.

E3G Inc. is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook and a fast-growing office in Washington DC. We work on the frontier of the climate landscape to make the necessary possible, tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate. Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action. We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, consistently ranked as one of the top-ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Thought leadership: Develop robust knowledge and thinking on climate diplomacy, in particular on the opportunities for climate cooperation between US-EU, EU-China and US-China.
  • Convening stakeholders: Support preparations for, and execution of, workshops and meetings, both internally and with external partners from the civil society, private sector and government.
  • Tracking developments. Systematically monitor and assess developments around political and geopolitical risks and opportunities related to climate policymaking in the EU, US and China.
  • Generating solutions: Identify and communicate ways to catalyse transformational change and accelerate support for mechanisms and institutional responses that achieve net zero emissions by mid-century.
  • Advocate and Communicate. Prepare clear, accessible research and analysis to inform policy briefings, reports and presentation.
  • Helping lead and manage stakeholder coalitions: Building and maintaining E3G relationships and networks with key political, institutional, business and civil society coalitions.
  • Build a stronger E3G: Offer support on project and proposal work within the wider E3G team, as required, and contribute to the wider development of E3G as an organization.

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline — e.g. climate change, international relations, economics, politics, development, international trade (required); post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline (desired).
  • Strong English-language communication skills. Adept at presenting clear, accessible analysis in written form and presenting ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues.
  • Strong research, analytical and thinking skills with intellectual curiosity and creativity and proficiency working with complex information.
  • Well-organized and focused on delivering desired outputs, results and outcomes. Can prioritize achieving outcomes over running activities.
  • Strong strategic and political understanding, working knowledge of political economy in relation to climate change.
  • Additional experience working within or around the US government would be desirable.
  • Must be able to work autonomously and deal with complexity and uncertainty.
  • Supportive, collaborative, and open colleague and team player, committed to achieving E3G’s overall objectives.
