Our Brussels’ office is a close-knit and friendly community, with 19 legal professionals in total. Our European Public Policy offering is led by partner Wolfgang Maschek, who has a growing team across a range of interesting and challenging sectors.
We are looking for someone to support our growing European Public Policy Practice. You’ll be monitoring and analyzing proposed laws, regulations and other policy developments at the EU level and in selected Member States across various fields, in particular environmental/chemical as well as energy, technology and/or financial services regulation, and preparing summaries, analyses, overviews position papers, client alters, presentations and speeches for both internal and external use. A key part of this role is actively supporting your colleagues within the office, the region and globally. At the same time, we are particularly looking for someone who is happy and confident in working directly with clients and with quickly increasing independence.
We’re looking for someone with at least one year’ experience working in public policy matters, whether within EU institutions, bodies or agencies, national administrations, law firms, business organisations, NGOs or within a Brussels Consultancy. You will have a strong academic background in law, although you do not need to be a qualified lawyer, legal training or admission to the bar would be advantageous. You will have a demonstrable expertise regarding the European institutional framework and be fully comfortable working in English, although additional relevant languages would be advantageous. It would be great if you have, expertise related to the fields mentioned above, in particular environmental/chemical regulation, although it is not essential provided you have a demonstrated interest and the ability to immerse yourself in these fields quickly.
You will be able to independently manage multiple work tasks and prioritize effectively, and will have excellent research and drafting skills. You take ownership and responsibility for all that you do. Your communication skills will be excellent, as will your presentation skills, and you will have commensurate IT skills too.
